SSC CHSL – Combined Higher Secondary Level Exam is conducted by SSC every year for the recruitment of various post of LDC, Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant and DEO. It is a 10+2 level exam.

Staff Selection Commission-Combined Higher Secondary Level (SSC CHSL) exam is a national level exam. This means that the candidates selected for any post may be asked to serve anywhere in the country. Under this examination various post of LDC, Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant and DEO.

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern – Tier-1
SSC CHSL tier-I question paper is divided into four parts containing total 100 objective-type multiple-choice questions. Candidates need to complete the exam in duration of 60 minutes.

Note:
- Tier-I will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions only.
- The test will be of bilingual (English and Hindi) except for test of English language.
- Two marks are awarded for each correct answer in the exam.
- The negative marking for incorrect answers will be 1/4th of the maximum marks of that question. For each wrong answer there will be 0.50 marks detected from total marks.
- Unanswered questions will not carry any negative marks.
- Total duration of Tier-1 is 60 minutes for all candidates. However, this duration extends till 80 minutes for PwD candidates.

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern for Tier – 2:
SSC CHSL tier-II question paper is descriptive in nature where in candidates have to write an essay and a letter/application in pen-and-paper mode. Total time allotted to complete the tier-II exam is 60 minutes (one hour) 20 minutes extra for (PWD) scribe candidates.

Note:
- The minimum qualifying marks in Tier-II would be 33 percent.

Only candidates who qualify Tier 1 and Tier 2 will be allowed to appear for the Skill Test/ Typing Test.

Skill Test for DEO: In this test, candidates are tested on their data entry speed. Candidates should have a data entry speed of 8,000 key-depressions per hour on computer. The test is of 15 minutes duration in which each candidate is given printed matter of about 2,000-2,200 key-depressions that they have to enter in the computer.
Skill Test for DEO (Grade-A): Candidates applying for DEO (Grade A) post in the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG) should have a speed of 15,000 key-depressions per hour on computer. Each candidate is given printed matter of about 3,700-4,000 key-depressions that they have to enter in the computer in a duration of 15 minutes.
- For visually handicapped candidates, 35 minutes will be given to undertake the skill test.
- Skill test is mandatory for every candidate including PH candidates as it is a precondition for the appointment to the post of Data Entry Operator (DEO)

- Typing test will be qualifying in the nature.
- The Typing test will be taken on computer.
- Typing test is conducted in both English and Hindi languages.
- Candidates need to indicate their choice for the medium of the test at the time of filling SSC CHSL application form.
- In case, a candidate does not opt for any medium at the time of filling CHSL application, he/she by default have to give a typing test in English.
- In the typing test, candidates should have a speed of minimum 35 words per minute (in English medium) and 30 words per minute (in Hindi medium).
- Candidates will be given 10 minutes’ time to type the given text, hence, they will be adjudged of their accuracy of typing on the computer.
- In English Typing and Hindi typing 30 minutes for
- VH candidates will be given 30 minutes for English Typing and Hindi typing.

SSC CHSL Eligibility:

Nationality/Citizenship:
A candidate must be either of the following:
- A citizen of India
- A subject of Nepal
- A subject of Bhutan
- A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India
- A person of Indian origin migrated from either/or Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India
Note: All candidates (other than citizens of India) need to produce a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India when asked by the authorities. As per the official notification, the offer of appointment will be issued to such candidates only after they produce the certificate of eligibility.

Educational Qualification:
(i)Must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.
(ii)For Data Entry Operator in the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG) 12th Standard pass in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Board or equivalent.

SSC CHSL Syllabus For Tier – II:
Descriptive Test asks candidates have to write an essay and a letter/application.
- The topics of this descriptive test generally will be from current affairs of national or international importance.
- The test for tier II is held in pen and paper mode.
- Essay topics are usually any current social, political, economic or cultural issue.
- An essay of 200-250 words.
- For letter/Application writing you can expect official topics. But it is always better to be aware of letter formats of all types.
- A letter or application of 150-200 words is required to be written.
