All about SSC – CGL EXAM
SSC CGL EXAM- Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam conducts by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for the appointment of candidates in Grade “B” and “C” category posts at various Government Ministries, Departments and Offices.
The Staff Selection Commission was established in 1975. The Headquarter of the Commission is located at New Delhi.
The SSC conducts the CGL exam every year. The complete process of registration and form filled through online mode at the official website of SSC CGL. The SSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam has a four-tier system. There is must qualify each phase (tier) of the SSC CGL exam to go on to the next one tier.

The SSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam has a four-tier system, in which tier I and tier II are computer-based, while in tier III is a descriptive paper and tier IV is a computer proficiency test or skill test & document verification.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern:
SSC CGL Tier I – Exam Pattern:
SSC CGL Tier I is necessary for all the posts and its marks are added for further process as well. It is necessary to clear the cut-off of the Tier I Exam then you will be eligible for next tier (Tier II & III).

Important Points:
- Tier I is an objective type exam which is holds in online mode.
- There will be 100 Questions in 4 sections in Tier I exam
- Each question will carry 2 marks.
- SSC CGL tier-I exam holds a weightage of 200 marks
- CGL Tier 1 Exam have negative marking. One wrong answer to a question will deduct 1/4 marks from the total of all sections.
- For visually handicapped candidates the exam duration is 80 minutes.
SSC CGL Exam Pattern for Tier-II
- The tier-II exam is an objective exam which will be conducted online.
- In CGL Tier II two papers will be conducted on the same day.
- Paper I is Quantitative Aptitude and Paper II is English. In addition, for the posts of JSO and AAO, Paper 3 and Paper 4 are conducted respectively.

- In Tier-II, Paper-I and Paper-II are compulsory for all the posts.
- For visually handicapped candidates the exam duration is 2 hours 40 minutes.
- In Tier-II, there will be a negative marking of 1/4 for each wrong answer in every section.
- Paper-III of Tier-II is only for those candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and who are shortlisted in Tier-I for these posts.
- In Tier-II, Paper-IV will be for only those candidates who are shortlisted in Tier-I for Paper-IV and who apply for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.

SSC CGL Tier III Exam Pattern

- This is a descriptive exam with the purpose of testing the writing skills of the candidates in English or Hindi.
- It is held offline.
- The candidates are required to write an essay/letter/application/precis. In order to prepare for this section, one needs to read lots of articles from various newspapers and magazines.
- For visually handicapped candidates the exam duration is 1 hour 20 minutes.
- Tier-I, Tier-II & Tier-III exams are compulsory for all posts mentioned in the SSC CGL 2019 notification.
SSC CGL Tier IV Exam Pattern:
Tier IV Exam of SSC CGL Exam have skill tests that are necessary for certain SSC CGL posts. Tier 4 is basically Skill Test comprising of two tests.

NOTE:
- OH candidates opting for post of Tax Assistant in CBEC are required to attend the Skill Test.
- Orthopedically Handicapped (OH) candidates for the post of Tax Assistant in CBDT need not appear for the skill test
1) DEST (Data Entry Speed Test): It is a qualifying skill test for all the posts, except to Compiler. It is held to test the typing speed of the candidate. In this test, the candidates are given the printed text in English which they should type accurately on a computer with a minimum of 2000 key depressions. The duration of this test is 15 minutes.
2) CPT (Computer Proficiency Test): SSC will hold CPT in three modules – Word Processing, Spread Sheet and Generation of Slides. CPT is a test for the posts of Assistant Section Officer in CSS, MEA & AFHQ, Assistant in Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Assistant (GSI) in the Ministry of Mines, Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer) & Inspector (Examiner) in CBIC.
3) Document Verification: The last step of the final selection would be document verification.

2) Age Limit –
Candidates can claim age relaxation if he/she falls under and considered category. The age limits mentioned here are applicable to general category candidates.

3) Nationality/Citizenship-
- A citizen of India, or
- A subject of Nepal, or
- A subject of Bhutan, or
- A Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
- a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania ( Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar ), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Physical Standard –
The physical requirements vary from post to post and are also different for male and female candidates. Candidates are advised to go through the notification thoroughly before opting the post category as the onus of fulfilling the physical standard criterion will be exclusively be on the candidate opting for such posts. There are certain requisite Physical Standards for Inspector (Central Excise/ Examiner/Preventive Officer), Sub-Inspector in CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) and Sub-Inspector in NIA (National Investigation Agency).
